Experiential Learning Reflection

Experiential Learning Reflection

  1. Jetport Activity, 9/18/21, Portland Jetport, 5 hours
    •  Service-learning event “jetport activity”. The priority focus would be the collaboration and interprofessional work of those who would be responding to a big accident and how they would help everyone injured and their families. The made an impact on me because it was amazing to see all the different fields of work and different departments come together and work as one team.
    •  Two social determinates of health that are relevant to the client population are Health Care Assess and Quality, and Neighborhood and Built Environment.
    •  Interprofessional communication and collaboration could facilitate helping save lives. It is also important for roles and responsibilities to be established for everybody to complete the task in a meaningful manner.
  • Cross Cultural Immersion in Ghana, 9/29/21, Zoom recording, 1 hour
    •  CECE event “Cross Cultural Immersion in Ghana”. The priority focus is to bring some knowledge and a mobile health care clinic to Ghana, where healthcare is needed. This was especially interesting to me because I am interested in attended this trip.
    •  Two social determinants of health that would be relevant here are economic stability and health care access and quality. I would advocate by saying that even though people in Ghana can’t afford medical care doesn’t mean they don’t need it, in fact some of them most likely need it more than we do because of the level of hygiene that these clients are taught or not taught. I would also advocate that hygiene products should be given to them to aid in promoting health.
    •  Interprofessional collaboration could help bring people in Ghana the care that they need. I feel that it would be important to understand their cultural and things such as values and ethics, this would help to bring them proper care.
  • Prejudiced patients caring for those who discriminate against you, 11/5/21, Zoom, 1 hour and a half
    •  CECE event “Prejudiced Patients Caring for those who Discriminate Against You”. The priority focus was how working anywhere you will find customers and/or patients who discriminate against you. This made an impact on me because it is important to understand that this is very well a situation you will run into through out your career.
    •  Two social determinants that would fit here are education access and quality and, social and community context.
    •  Interprofessional teamwork and team-based care could potentially help patients realize that without disparity they may not have someone caring for them.
  • Restraints and seclusions in Maine schools, 11/10/21, Zoom, 1 hour and a half
    •  CECE event “Restraints and Seclusions in Maine Schools”. The priority focus was that Maine is like the highest state in the country to use restraints in school and how to move away from using restraints. This impacted me because I didn’t even realize that using restraints in schools was a thing.
    •  Two social determinates of health for this CECE are education assess and quality and, neighborhood and built environment.
    •  Interprofessional care could eliminate the use of restraints in schools. Communication between everyone in the school system to find out what the biggest needs of the students are. Restraints should not even be considered an option.
