Disaster Nursing

Disaster Nursing

Depending on where the nurse is at the time of the disaster is going to depend on the roles that they should be doing. First and for most, if the nurse is in the hospital, they should be following the hospitals EOP (emergency operating plan). Before a disaster occurs, a nurse should be semi familiar with what their role and responsibilities would be in the event of any disaster. I would say besides what is protocol you want to do whatever you can to keep your patient out of harm’s way. If the nurse is somewhere else when a disaster occurs, you would probably help with triaging patients and getting patients to a safe location. I agree with both ethical codes, provision 2 speaks to me more because you are the advocacy for each and every one of your patients. When a patient is in danger and can’t help themselves, you are supposed to be there to help them. Provision 5 is important because if you aren’t doing well, you will not be able to properly care for your patients. So, it is important to make sure that you take care of what is needed for yourself and then when you are at 100% help your patients in best way that you can.
